Job Role: Financial Advisor

- Meet with clients to understand their financial goals and objectives
- Develop customized financial plans to help clients achieve their goals
- Provide advice and guidance on investment planning, retirement planning, tax planning, and risk management
- Research and recommend financial products and services to clients
- Monitor clients’ investments and make recommendations for changes as needed
- Keep abreast of changes in the financial industry and laws that may impact clients
- Provide education and training to clients on various financial topics
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and transactions
The minimum requirements to become a financial advisor typically include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as finance, economics, or accounting. Additionally, many employers require financial advisors to pass the Series 7 exam, which is a test of general securities knowledge, and the Series 66 exam, which is a test of state securities laws. In addition to the minimum requirement, many financial advisor positions also require additional certifications such as CFP (Certified Financial Planner), CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant)from organizations such as the CFP Board, Society of Financial Service Professionals and American College respectively.

- Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis software and tools
- Knowledge of tax laws and regulations
